On the table this year

The Actuary as Architect of Resilience

Three days where the actuarial profession in East Africa sets its agenda for the year. Policy, capital, climate, and AI — examined together, by the people who actually build the models that price and protect.

The 11th edition continues the conversation the 10th opened on actuaries as policy architects, and pushes deeper into the structural questions: who gets covered, what gets priced, and how the profession holds itself to a higher technical standard while the ground keeps shifting.

The programme

Three days, one continuous conversation.

Each day takes one half of the profession's map. Single-track sessions; no clashes — the room moves together.

  1. Day 1 · Thursday, Oct 29

    Public policy & social protection

    • NHIF / SHIF transition and the actuary's role in financing health
    • Climate-resilient social protection: parametric covers for smallholders
    • Pensions reform in East Africa: defined-contribution at scale
    • Consumer protection and price discrimination — where actuaries draw the line
  2. Day 2 · Friday, Oct 30

Financial markets, banking & insurance regulation

    • IFRS 17: two years in, what the audits are flagging
    • Reserving under inflation and FX volatility
    • Capital adequacy frameworks across EAC regulators
    • The investment book: actuarial input on ALM and credit
  3. Day 3 · Saturday, Oct 31

    ESG, sustainability & innovative frontiers

    • Putting AI into actuarial production responsibly
    • Climate risk: physical, transition, and litigation exposures
    • The actuary as a business architect — beyond reserving
    • Newly-qualified actuaries: research showcase
